Dr. Barbara Shollock

Biography

Professor Barbara Shollock is the Director of the Net Zero Centre and a professor of engineering at King's College London. Her academic journey includes degrees from Lehigh University in the USA and a DPhil from the University of Oxford. She has held prestigious fellowships, including the Rolls-Royce Junior Research Fellowship and a subsequent Rolls-Royce Research Fellowship. Following her doctorate, she joined the Department of Materials at Imperial College London as a Lecturer. In 2014, she was appointed the Tata Steel Research Chair at the Warwick Manufacturing Group, where she served as Academic Director and helped shape strategic visions with Professor Lord Bhattacharyya. In 2019, she returned to King's College London to relaunch the Department of Engineering, emphasizing interdisciplinary research and inclusivity in engineering education. Shollock has extensive experience in collaborating with industry, securing significant funding for research initiatives that integrate governmental policies with engineering solutions, particularly in the areas of sustainable technologies and decarbonization. Her commitment to fostering a diverse academic environment is evident from her leadership in increasing female representation within the engineering faculty. She actively mentors talent across academic levels and has established international collaborations to enhance global research efforts in engineering.
