Biography

Professor Barbara Stecher-Letsch holds a Full Professorship for Intestinal Microbiome at the Technical University of Munich School of Life Sciences. Her research focuses on the human gut microbial ecosystem, exploring its protective functions against bacterial infections. Utilizing synthetic bacterial consortia and animal models, her team investigates the mechanisms of microbe-microbe interactions within complex microbial communities and their impact on host health. She undertook postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich and McMaster University in Canada before becoming a Full Professor at LMU Munich in 2011. Her current position at TUM was appointed in October 2024, where she continues to contribute to significant scientific advancements in microbiome research.
