Dr. Barbara Trenholm

Biography

Barbara Trenholm, Professor Emerita, joined the Faculty of Management at the University of New Brunswick in 1980 and retired in 2008. She received the rank of Professor Emerita at Encaenia in 2009, acknowledging her extraordinary record of professional service and pedagogical dissemination. Throughout her career, she taught a wide range of accounting courses in BBA and MBA programs. Trenholm's excellence in teaching was recognized with several awards, including the University of New Brunswick's Allan P. Stuart Excellence in Teaching Award, the UNB Merit Award, and the UNB Teaching Professorship. She also received the National Post's Leaders in Management Education Award and the Atlantic Canada Academy of Business Administration's Global Teaching Excellence Award. Trenholm has an extensive record of service within the faculty, having chaired and served on numerous academic committees. She held the position of Acting Dean of the Faculty and was co-chair of the Board of Trustees of the UNB Pension Plan Academic Employees Pension Board. Additionally, she has been active in professional organizations such as CPA Canada and the Canadian Academic Accounting Association. With an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, Barbara has experience serving on boards of both public and private companies, as well as crown corporations and not-for-profits. Her research interests include issues related to accounting standard setting, particularly those involving director and auditor liability. Furthermore, she has authored numerous pedagogical learning materials and co-authored bestselling accounting textbooks.
