Biography

Dr. Barbara Tylenda is a Clinical Professor Emerita in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University. With over 35 years of experience as a licensed psychologist, she is board-certified in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Dr. Tylenda holds an A.B. degree in Psychology and Fine Arts from the College of the Holy Cross, as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Child Psychology from Southern Illinois University--Carbondale. Further enhancing her expertise, she completed a period of study at the C. G. Jung Institut in Zurich, Switzerland. She has held various esteemed positions, including Chief Psychologist at the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD) at the Emma Pendleton Bradley Hospital, where she has been involved for many years. Dr. Tylenda's research primarily focuses on infant and child assessment and diagnosis, specifically in areas concerning intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and psychiatric disorders. She has published numerous book chapters and journal articles, frequently lecturing on topics including developmental disabilities and attachment disorders. Her commitment to training Clinical Child Psychologists has been evident throughout her career. In recognition of her teaching and contributions, she has received multiple awards including the Outstanding Professor Psychology Award from Auburn University and various excellence teaching awards from Brown Medical School.
