Barbara Ward, MD, is an associate professor at Yale School of Medicine and serves as the chair of Surgery and Medical Director of the Breast Center at Greenwich Hospital. She began her career at Yale School of Medicine in 1990 and later co-founded the Breast Center at Greenwich Hospital in 2000, which has since been recognized as a pilot site for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Dr. Ward completed her medical degree at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and her surgical residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, where she also served as chief resident. Furthermore, she pursued a two-year fellowship in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute. With a focus on breast cancer treatment and management, Dr. Ward employs various surgical techniques tailored to patients' needs, emphasizing the preservation of healthy breast tissue. She has received numerous awards, including the 2007 President’s Award from Greenwich Hospital and the 2014 Women Matter Award from the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Ward is also a medical advisor to the Breast Cancer Alliance and an active member of several professional societies.
