Dr. Barbara Ward

Biography

Barbara Ward, MD, serves as the Associate Professor of Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine and is the chair of the Surgery department at Greenwich Hospital, where she is also the Medical Director of the Breast Center. Dr. Ward began her career at Yale School of Medicine in 1990, and during her tenure, she was named the Director of the Yale Comprehensive Breast Center and co-founded the Breast Center at Greenwich Hospital in 2000. The center became a pilot site for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers under her leadership. She completed her medical education at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, followed by a surgical residency at Yale New Haven Hospital where she served as chief resident. Dr. Ward also undertook a two-year fellowship in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute. A recipient of numerous accolades, including the 2007 President’s Award from Greenwich Hospital and the 2014 Women Matter Award from the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, she is a co-author of over 45 peer-reviewed publications and actively participates in multiple professional societies including the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
