Biography

Barbara J. Wold is a distinguished molecular biologist known for her pioneering research in transcriptional networks. She is currently the Bren Professor at the California Institute of Technology and also serves as the Merkin Institute Professor. Wold completed her B.S. degree at Arizona State University in Tempe in 1973 and earned her Ph.D. from Caltech in 1978. Following her doctoral studies, she became a Research Fellow at Caltech. Her academic career progressed through various ranks starting as an Assistant Professor in 1981, then promoting to Associate Professor in 1988, before attaining the rank of Professor in 1996. In 2003, she was appointed as the Bren Professor, a position she has held since. Wold has also directed the Beckman Institute and the Merkin Institute during her career. Her research focuses predominantly on transcriptional networks in both mouse and human models, contributing significantly to the understanding of gene regulation and expression pathways.
