Dr. Barbro Wallgren Hemlin

Biography

Barbro Wallgren Hemlin is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg. Her research focuses on Esaias Tegnér's ecclesiastical orations, with an aim to produce a scholarly edition of his sermons and homilies. She has been actively involved in various conferences and publications concerning Tegnér's rhetorical, stylistic, and theological contributions to Swedish literature and culture. Her work includes contributing to the critical edition of Tegnér’s works, alongside oversight of projects initiated by the Tegnér Society. Wallgren Hemlin's scholarly endeavors encompass extensive archival research and textual criticism, with a keen interest in the historical context of Tegnér's speeches and their relevance in contemporary discussions on homiletics and rhetoric. In addition to her academic publications, she actively participates in addressing the historical narratives surrounding Swedish public speaking and its societal implications. Her ongoing project includes a comprehensive monograph that aims to analyze the various types of speeches made by Tegnér during significant church ceremonies. She has contributed to numerous collections of abstracts and presentations, bolstering her unique expertise in editions philology and studies of rhetoric.
