Biography

Bard Harstad is the David S. Lobel Professor of Business Sustainability at Stanford University, where he also holds a professorship in Environmental Social Sciences and serves as a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. With a PhD from Stockholm University, he has taught at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University from 2004 to 2012, and at the University of Oslo from 2012 to 2023, before joining the Graduate School of Business in 2023. His research focuses on political economy, environmental economics, and applied theory. Harstad's work includes designing international agreements and trade agreements regarding climate policy, as well as developing supply-side environmental policies aimed at motivating conservation efforts to reduce deforestation. He has served as an editor for the Review of Economic Studies since 2021.
