Biography

Barend Köbben is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Twente's Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC). He holds a Master's degree in Geography, specializing in Cartography, from Utrecht University. With over nine years of teaching experience, he has worked at the International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) since 1997, providing education in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. His research focuses on cartographic visualization within GIS, and he teaches subjects like Cartographic Theory, Web Cartography, and web application development. In addition to teaching, he supervises MSc theses and is the coordinator for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Cartography, which is a collaborative program with technical universities in Munich, Dresden, and Vienna. Over the years, he has published more than 1,000 maps and infographics, primarily in the Dutch journal 'Geografie'.
