Biography

Baris Borsa is a Principal Research Engineer at Linköping University, focusing on developing new targeted therapeutics and diagnostics for infectious diseases using nucleic acid probes. He graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty in 2004 and gained his Medical Microbiology Specialist degree in 2009 after a four-year residency at Sisli Etfal Training Research Hospital. Borsa began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at Altinbas University in 2013, where he held various administrative roles, including Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty. He continued his career at Yeditepe University, achieving the rank of Associate Professor in 2018. He joined Linköping University as a postdoctoral researcher, working on projects aimed at combating the rise of antimicrobial resistance. His current research includes the development of a first-in-kind targeted oligonucleotide antibiotic aimed at the major human pathogen, Staphylococcus aureus. Borsa's expertise spans bacteriology, antimicrobial resistance, drug discovery, and diagnostics. He has contributed significantly to the field with numerous publications in esteemed journals.
