Biography

Baris Fidan is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, with cross appointments in the Department of System Design Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). His research interests encompass cooperative adaptive control, system identification, nonlinear system theory, multi-agent systems, sensor networks, robotics, intelligent systems, control applications, vehicular controls, and control of mechatronic biomedical systems. He has led numerous industrial research projects and is the principal investigator for several NSERC Discovery Programs focusing on topics such as Cooperative Adaptive Mechatronic Systems and Autonomous Vehicle Networks. Fidan has significantly contributed to the field through his extensive research in nonlinear adaptive switched dynamical systems and robust adaptive control.
