Biography

Barney Hartman-Glaser joined the faculty of the UCLA Anderson School of Management as an assistant professor of finance in 2013 and became an associate professor in 2020. He serves as the research director for the UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate. Prior to his tenure at UCLA, he was an assistant professor of finance at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. His research primarily focuses on the effects of contracting frictions, adverse selection, moral hazard, mortgage markets, and corporate finance, as well as housing market dynamics. Originally from California, Hartman-Glaser's academic journey was influenced by his family's background in education. His research has been widely published in top finance and management journals, earning accolades such as the 2020 Brattle Group Prize for Corporate Finance and the 2019 Jensen Prize. In addition to his research, he is dedicated to fostering a collaborative learning environment for his students, emphasizing both fundamental concepts in finance and practical skills for career advancement. Outside of academia, Hartman-Glaser enjoys outdoor activities in Southern California, including surfing and cycling.
