Dr. Barnita Bagchi

Biography

Barnita Bagchi is a Chair Professor of World Literatures in English at the University of Amsterdam. She has an extensive educational background with degrees from Jadavpur, Oxford, and Cambridge universities. Prior to her current role, Bagchi was an Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at Utrecht University. She has received numerous qualifications including the Senior Qualification Teaching and the University Teaching Qualification. Barnita teaches various programs focusing on modern South Asian literature and postcolonial transcultural literatures. She has supervised multiple PhD candidates and is regarded as an international authority in women's writing and cultural history. Bagchi's scholarly work has garnered prestigious grants and fellowships from institutions across Europe and North America and she frequently presents her research at international conferences. Her publications include significant contributions to various journals and book chapters in the field of utopian studies and feminist literature. She is actively involved in peer reviewing for notable journals and presses and has a strong public presence, recently leading discussions on feminist utopian dystopian literature.
