Dr. Barnita Bagchi

Biography

Barnita Bagchi is the Chair Professor of World Literatures in English at the University of Amsterdam. She has an academic background enriched by her education at Jadavpur University, the University of Oxford, and the University of Cambridge. Prior to her current role, she served as an Associate Professor at Utrecht University in the field of Comparative Literature. Barnita holds several senior qualifications, including certifications in teaching and research methodologies. Her teaching focus includes topics such as modern South Asian literature and speculative fiction, guiding undergraduate and graduate students alike. She has co-supervised multiple Ph.D. candidates on subjects concerning literature and human rights, and she is recognized as an international authority on women’s writing and cultural history. Her extensive research work has earned her prestigious grants and fellowships from various international institutions. Barnita has contributed significantly to multiple academic journals and published a number of chapters and books, exploring themes of feminist utopias and cultural narratives, with recent publications addressing the intersections of culture and rights.
