Biography

Barret Kurylyk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Resource Engineering at Dalhousie University, where he is also a Canada Research Chair in Coastal Water Resources. His research interests encompass coastal hydrogeology, hydrodynamics, morphodynamics, cold regions hydrology, hydrogeology, water temperature dynamics, fish habitat, groundwater-surface water interactions, numerical modeling, flow transport, and UAV applications in earth science. He completed his education with a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 2014, following a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and various diplomas related to engineering and teaching. Kurylyk has served as a research associate and held prestigious postdoctoral positions, including an NSERC Killam Fellowship. He has been recognized with several awards, including the American Geophysical Union Hydrologic Sciences Early Career Award in 2024 and the Canadian Geophysical Union Young Scientist Award. Kurylyk is active in professional duties, holding leadership roles such as the President of the Canadian Geophysical Union Hydrology Section and editorial positions in various scientific journals. He contributes to the field both through research and service to the academic community.
