Biography

Barry D. Bultz, PhD, holds the Daniel Family Leadership Chair in Psychosocial Oncology and is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He is the founding Director of the Department of Psychosocial Oncology at Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary. Dr. Bultz is a co-founder and Past President of the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology (CAPO) and has served as an Invited Director on the Board of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society. From 2012 to 2014, he served as President of the International Psycho-Oncology Society. He advocates for the recognition of the impact of cancer-related distress as the sixth vital sign in patient experiences. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and made over 25 presentations on the importance of screening and management of cancer-related distress. His work has garnered numerous awards, including the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology Award of Excellence and the Alberta Order of Excellence. Dr. Bultz was recognized as a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association in 2017 and was elected as a Fellow of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society. His contributions to psycho-oncology have been distinguished and influential in the field.
