Biography

Barry Honig is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Columbia University, where he also serves as the Director of the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. His research focuses on understanding the biophysics of macromolecules and employs a combination of structural biology and systems biology to predict protein-protein interactions. Honig's lab seeks to integrate structural data with machine learning techniques to uncover fundamental physical principles behind a variety of biological phenomena. Current research programs are investigating genome-wide studies of protein-protein and protein-compound interactions, as well as the specific protein-protein interactions that govern neural circuit connections and methods to optimize antibodies via free energy perturbation. Throughout his career, Honig has made significant contributions to theoretical biophysics and the development of software tools to address problems of biological importance. He has held numerous prestigious positions and received various awards, including being elected to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
