Dr. Barry Pakes

Biography

Barry Pakes is an associate professor at the University of Toronto, where he is actively involved in public health education and research. He practices emergency medicine and has extensive experience in public health leadership, having served as the Medical Officer of Health for York Region and as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the Government of Nunavut. Pakes is the Program Director of the Public Health and Preventative Medicine Residency Program and has held roles such as Global Health Lead at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. His educational background includes degrees from prestigious institutions, with a PhD in Public Health Ethics from the University of Toronto and a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University. He is involved in various professional committees and has a keen interest in the ethical aspects of public health practice, vaccine hesitancy, and bridging gaps between education and practice in public health and primary care.
