Biography

Bart Nijssen completed his degree in Hydrology at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and earned his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington in 2000. He began his academic career as an assistant professor at the University of Arizona and returned to Seattle in 2005 to work in the private sector on renewable energy projects involving forecasting and resource assessment. In 2011, Nijssen joined the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Washington, where he leads the UW Hydro | Computational Hydrology Group. His research focuses on surface water hydrology, the impacts of climate change on hydrology, and the development of hydrological models and analysis methods. His group builds tools to simulate the terrestrial hydrological cycle and carries out research projects that address the effects of climate change on hydrology and water resources.
