Biography

Barthelemy Kuate Defo is the author and co-author of 180 scientific publications focusing on nutrition across the lifespan in low- and middle-income countries, epidemiology, and the control of communicable diseases such as malaria, measles, diarrhea, and HIV/AIDS, as well as non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, neurological diseases, and mental disorders in 195 countries worldwide. His research areas encompass ecology; nutrition and health throughout the life course; the burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases; cause-of-death mortality; theories in population sciences and global public health; the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of health interventions, strategies, and actions. He is also interested in translating research findings into policy and in strategies for health protection and promotion in Africa. He has extensive experience in various committees and panels for funding agencies and institutions in Quebec, Canada, and abroad. Since 1995, he has been an invited speaker at the United States National Academy of Sciences and has served as a permanent member of various expert groups, contributing to the reduction of health disparities and promoting interdisciplinary approaches in instruction and research.
