Dr. Bartosz Protas

Biography

Bartosz Protas is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University. He is an applied mathematician with a primary interest in problems that combine theoretical computational fluid dynamics with optimization and control theory. His research blends fundamental investigations into core problems in hydrodynamics with applied studies that are relevant to industrial applications. He has broad interests in applied mathematics and scientific computing, focusing on the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of physical processes. Protas has been appointed as the Acting Department Chair of Mathematics and Statistics during the 2022-2023 academic year. He holds an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering with a major in Computational Fluid Dynamics from Warsaw University of Technology and a Ph.D. in Mechanics from the same institution. Additionally, he obtained a Fluid Dynamics Doctorate from Université Pierre et Marie Curie – Paris VI in France, where he graduated with honors.
