Bas Blaauboer studied biology at Utrecht University and obtained his PhD in toxicology in 1978. In 2008, he was appointed the Doerenkamp-Zbinden Chair in Alternatives to Animal Testing and Toxicological Risk Assessment at IRAS. His research emphasizes combining in vitro toxicity data with physiologically based biokinetic (PBBK) modeling tools for risk assessments. He is the author or co-author of 180 publications, including peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and has served as an editor for 'Toxicology In Vitro' and as the director/coordinator of the Dutch Programme Postgraduate Education Toxicology until 2014.
