Biography

Bas Jacobs is a Full Professor of Public Economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he has been since 2022. Prior to this position, he held the Sijbren Cnossen chair in public economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam from 2018 and served as a professor of public economics there since 2007. He is also a research fellow at the Tinbergen Institute and a member of the advisory board at the Norwegian Center of Taxation. Additionally, he serves on the management board of the International Institute of Public Finance and is an associate editor for FinanzArchiv. Jacobs holds a PhD from the University of Amsterdam. His research areas encompass public finance, optimal taxation, welfare economics, macroeconomics, human capital theory, and labor economics. He has published extensively on topics such as optimal taxation, income redistribution, fiscal policy, environmental tax policy, and labor markets. Jacobs collaborates with various prominent economists and is involved in numerous ancillary activities related to tax policy and education.
