Biography

Bas L.A.M. Weusten is a professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at UMC Utrecht, Netherlands. He graduated from medical school at Utrecht University, where he also wrote his PhD thesis on gastroesophageal reflux disease and esophageal perception between 1992 and 1995. After completing his traineeship in gastroenterology, he became a staff member at St Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, in 2002. In 2011, he became a professor of Innovative Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at the University Medical Center Amsterdam. In 2017, he moved to Utrecht and was appointed as a professor of GI Endoscopy at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Throughout his career, he has chaired the Dutch Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy for several years. His primary focus lies in the clinical work and research related to the endoscopic management of early neoplasia.
