Biography

Dr Basel Halak is an Associate Professor of secure electronics at the University of Southampton and the Director of the Cyber Security Academy. He leads the European Masters in Embedded Computing Systems (EMECS) program. Dr. Halak's expertise encompasses Digital Systems Design, Hardware Security, and Applied Cryptography, having authored approximately 100 refereed conference and journal papers as well as several books, including titles on Physically Unclonable Functions and Hardware Supply Chain Security. His academic endeavors are complemented by significant collaboration with industry leaders such as ARM, Arqit, Schneider Electric, and Ericsson. Over the years, he has also contributed to the global research community as a member of technical program committees for major conferences related to hardware security and digital design. For his contributions to education and research, Dr. Halak has been recognized with awards such as the National Teaching Fellowship from Advance HE and the Industrial Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering. He has successfully supervised the completion of 15 PhD students and 7 post-doctoral scholars, demonstrating a commitment to fostering the next generation of researchers in his field.
