Biography

Professor Sir Bashir M. Al-Hashimi CBE is a Visiting Professor in Electronics Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Southampton and an ARM Professor of Computer Engineering at King's College London. He has worked in the electronics design industry for eight years before embarking on an academic career at ECS in 1999, where he was awarded a personal chair in 2004. His research focuses on the interaction of hardware and software in energy-constrained computing design systems, with an emphasis on energy-efficient and reliable systems. He has contributed significantly to the field of energy-efficient mobile computing systems, low-power testing, test-data compression, and digital integrated circuits. In 2008, he founded the ARM-ECS industry-academia centre of research excellence in energy-efficient computing and has supervised 45 PhD students to successful completion. With nearly 400 technical papers, he has received eight paper awards and authored/co-authored five books along with eight book chapters. Furthermore, he has led several large-scale interdisciplinary research programs and is a principal investigator for the EPSRC Programme Grant PRiME. Professor Bashir was awarded a CBE in 2018 for his services to engineering and education. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and he has participated in multiple Research Excellence Framework panels for engineering.
