Biography

Basil Dufallo is a Professor in the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Michigan, where he has been teaching since 2001. He received his Ph.D. in Classics from UCLA in 1999. His research interests include Latin Literature, Roman Culture, Queer Theory, Postcolonial Theory, New Materialisms, Text Image, and Classical Reception. Dufallo has authored several influential works, including 'Disorienting Empire: Republican Latin Poetry's Wanderers' (Oxford University Press, 2021), 'Captor’s Image: Greek Culture Roman Ecphrasis' (Oxford University Press, 2013), and 'Ghosts Past: Latin Literature, Dead, Rome’s Transition Principate' (Ohio State University Press, 2007). He has also edited notable publications such as 'Roman Error: Classical Reception Problem Rome's Flaws' (Oxford University Press, 2018) and contributed to multiple academic articles and book chapters focusing on Latin literature and modern reception. Dufallo has received several fellowships, including the Visiting International Fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Study, University of Warwick in 2018, and a Faculty Fellowship from U-M’s Institute of Humanities in 2010-11. He actively participates in the Society for Classical Studies and the Classical Association of the Middle West and South.
