Biography

Bassem Awad is an Assistant Professor at Western University in the Faculty of Law. He serves as the Director of the Intellectual Property, Information Technology Law Concentration, and is the Founder and Faculty Director of the Western Intellectual Property Innovation Legal Clinic. Dr. Awad has also acted as a visiting Professor at the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva. He has significant experience in international governance and has served as the Deputy Director of the Intellectual Property Innovation Centre at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). Previously, he was the Head Judge of the Court of Appeal in Egypt and has taught at various institutions across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Canada. He is a recognized member of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) and serves on the Editorial Committee of academic journals. Dr. Awad's research focuses on technology law, particularly artificial intelligence, and comparative international intellectual property law, including copyright and patents. He has authored and edited numerous publications on intellectual property law and has taught several distance learning professional training programs globally.
