Bastian Märkisch is a professor of Particle Physics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). His research focuses on precision experiments in particle physics at low energies, specifically the search for physics beyond the Standard Model. He is particularly interested in measurements of weak interactions and decay-free neutrons. Dr. Märkisch performed experiments at leading neutron sources including FRM II in Garching and the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble. He studied physics at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Edinburgh, earning his PhD in 2006 at Heidelberg. Following his doctoral studies, he undertook research visits at the Institut Laue-Langevin before joining academia as a scientist. In 2010, he led a research group at the Physikalisches Institut of Heidelberg University as part of the priority program of the German Research Foundation (DFG), SPP 1491, focusing on precision experiments in particle and astrophysics using cold and ultracold neutrons. In 2015, he was appointed to the faculty at TUM.
