Dr. Beata Batorowicz is an Associate Professor at Queen's University in the School of Rehabilitation Therapy. She specializes in developing, implementing, and evaluating services to support and enrich the social participation of children and young adults with disabilities, particularly those relying on assistive technology and/or augmentative alternative communication (AAC). Her research aims to design and promote services that enable meaningful participation in healthy lives for children and their families while building capacity within communities. Dr. Batorowicz is a Canadian lead on a large international project focused on the participation of children using AAC, actively collaborating with 16 countries. Her current funded project addresses life aspirations, employment, and leisure for young adults with physical disabilities, developing guidelines for AAC. Additionally, she serves as the Chair of the Research Committee for the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC) and is an Associate Editor for the AAC journal.
