Biography

Beáta Huszka is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies (CSLS) in the Law Faculty, working on the HuRiEE project with a focus on Romania and Hungary. Previously, she was based at University College London (UCL) SSEES and was involved in the project from February 2023. Beáta completed her PhD at Central European University (CEU) in Budapest in 2010 and worked as an associate professor at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), in the Faculty of Social Sciences in Budapest. She was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) Fellow at ELIAMEP in Athens, Greece from 2019 to 2021 and a visiting researcher at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), focusing on policy issues in Southeast Europe from 2020 to 2022. Her MSCA research project, 'Assessing Agency of National Minorities in Court Cases: Mapping Legal Mobilization Patterns in Central and Eastern Europe', analyzed state minority rights through the lens of litigation and legal mobilization in Romania and Hungary. Between 2013 and 2017, Beáta led a work package for the EU’s FP7 project FRAME at ELTE, which was coordinated by the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, researching the role of human rights in the EU’s external relations. She has extensive research experience on minority issues in Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans, and has engaged in academic policy research. Beáta has also been a visiting researcher at institutions including the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (2007), the European University Institute (2006), and the Centre for European Policy Studies (2007), as well as holding an International Policy Fellowship from the Open Society Institute (2006-2007).
