Biography

Beatrice P. Concepcion is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, specializing in transplant nephrology. She serves as the Medical Director of the Kidney Pancreas Transplant Program and the Practice Chair of the Transplant Institute. Dr. Concepcion received her medical degree from the University of the Philippines in Manila in 2004. Following this, she completed her training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, and completed her fellowship in Transplant Nephrology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN in 2011. Prior to joining the University of Chicago in 2023, she spent ten years at Vanderbilt University, where she was also the Medical Director of the Transplant Program. She is actively involved in clinical practice, caring for kidney transplant recipients and evaluating living donor candidates, while also contributing to education for nephrology fellows and medical residents. Dr. Concepcion's research interests include increasing access to kidney and pancreas transplantation and improving clinical outcomes for kidney transplant recipients. She is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and the American Society of Transplantation. Dr. Concepcion has contributed to important national committees and workgroups, including the United Network for Organ Sharing and the American Society of Nephrology's Public Policy Advocacy Committee. Her extensive publication record includes research on risk factors in transplantation and health care perceptions of patients with kidney disease.
