Biography

Beatrice Michaeli joined the UCLA Anderson faculty in 2014 after completing her Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Accounting at Columbia Business School. Her research focuses on analytical models in areas such as financial reporting, voluntary disclosure, performance measurement, and incentives contracting. Michaeli has expressed a desire to present neat abstract models that address important practical problems, providing useful recommendations for firms and regulators. Born in Bulgaria to a family of judges and lawyers, she initially pursued a law degree before transitioning to business administration, majoring in finance and accounting. A serendipitous invitation to teach led her to academia, where she has embraced the role of educating students. At UCLA, she teaches an MBA class titled "Corporate Decision Making Incentives". Her teaching approach emphasizes hands-on learning and encourages students to observe problematic situations and think critically about potential solutions. Outside of academia, Michaeli enjoys traveling, swimming, running, and practicing yoga.
