Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Beatriz de Alba-Koch obtained her undergraduate degree from ITESM, followed by graduate studies in France, Canada, and the United States. She joined the University of Victoria as an Associate Professor after holding faculty positions at McGill University and Queen’s in Kingston. She is the founding director of the Latin American Studies Program at the University of Victoria and the founding coordinator of the Latin America Research Group, serving from 2010 to 2022. Her research, funded by SSHRCC, has focused on the Hispanic Baroque, coordinating an interdisciplinary line of research on technologies and culture. She has published extensively, including her work "The Ibero-American Baroque" (Toronto: U Toronto Press, 2022), showcasing her expertise in Colonial and Early National Latin American history, Intellectual History, and Global Cultural History.
