Biography

Beatriz Goulao is a senior research fellow with expertise in medical statistics, trial methodology, and elicitation methods. Holding a senior Futures Fellowship at the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences, her work focuses on maximizing the role of data statistics to achieve a sustainable and greener NHS. Beatriz has been recognized with the prestigious MRC New Investigator award for her research on developing new methods that incorporate patient and public input to determine minimally important differences in sample sizes for clinical trials. With a decade of experience in clinical trial implementation science, she serves on NIHR funding panels for Healthcare Services Delivery and Decarbonizing Health. Beatriz is a co-leader in the statistical analysis working group within the Trial Methodology Research Partnership (TMRP) and has spent 11 years with the Aberdeen Centre for Evaluation, where she led the statistics team at the Centre for Healthcare Randomised Trials (CHaRT). As an honorary research fellow at CHaRT, she has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and secured more than £3.5 million in research funding, with over £600k as Principal Chief Investigator. Her contributions have earned her a spot among Scotland’s Top 40 under 40 in research and patient public engagement with a focus on statistics and methodological innovation.
