Biography

Beaumie Kim joined the University of Calgary in January 2013 after being a member of the Learning Sciences Lab and Learning Sciences Technologies Academic Group at the National Institute of Education in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Her research focuses on the development of learning resources and tools using technology in the Earth Sciences. Funded by the National Research Foundation in Singapore, Beaumie led a project involving progressive design workshops aimed at creating an educational game to promote a deeper understanding of Earth sciences. Her collaborative work engages teachers and students in the design process, observing their interactions, discourse, and artifacts. Over the years, Beaumie has actively contributed to various professional organizations, including serving as the Past-President of the Learning Sciences Special Interest Group with the Canadian Education Research Association, and as a member of the advisory board for the International Society for Learning Sciences. Her academic background includes a PhD and MEd in Instructional Technology from the University of Georgia, and a BS in Educational Technology from Hanyang University. Beaumie has also been recognized with multiple awards for her leadership and contributions to education.
