Biography

Becky Collins is a river scientist with a background in environmental management and academia. She has spent several years working for the Environment Agency as a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Officer, where she focused on developing flood risk management projects. Later, Becky transitioned to consultancy, deepening her expertise in flood risks including fluvial, surface water, and foul water management. Since 2017, she has been involved in lecturing, initially at the University of Worcester, where she specialized in River Science and GIS-related subjects. In 2021, she joined the University of Bristol to teach GIS and Geostatistics. Alongside her professional career, Becky is pursuing her PhD at the University of Worcester, which utilizes very-high-resolution terrestrial laser scan data to understand the influence of bank roughness on erosion rates. Her research interests are diverse, informed by her extensive industry experience, and include flood risk management, bank erosion, remote sensing—particularly terrestrial techniques—and sustainable urban drainage.
