Biography

Becky Samson is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at University College London, focusing on Neuroinflammation. She completed her PhD in MRI Physics at the University College London from 2002 to 2006, investigating innovative quantitative imaging methods, particularly in the context of multiple sclerosis (MS). Her work has involved detecting and quantifying pathological processes in the central nervous system through advanced imaging techniques such as Magnetisation Transfer Imaging, Diffusion MRI, and functional MRI. After her doctoral studies, she served as a Research Associate at the UCL Institute of Neurology, contributing to the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy, where she provided teaching support and developed MRI sequences for clinical applications. In 2008, she re-joined the NMR Research Unit at Queen Square MS Centre, continuing her research on quantitative MRI methods applicable to various parts of the nervous system. Her academic endeavors are driven by the goal of enhancing the understanding and treatment of neurological disorders, particularly focusing on MS and its implications on neuroinflammation and myelination. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to advancing the field of MRI physics and its clinical applications in neurology.
