Bede completed his Master of Science in 2011 and was awarded an Australian Post Graduate Award to continue his studies for a PhD in soil microbial ecology, which he finished in 2016. His PhD research focused on investigating simulated agricultural management practices on soil microbial processes, particularly in the rhizosphere, and their impact on Carbon and Nitrogen cycling under water stress. Following his PhD, Bede became the research development manager at Richgro Garden Products, applying his scientific understanding at a commercial level. He is an inaugural member of the SproutX accelerator program and co-founded the start-up Food3. Since 2017, Bede has collaborated with multiple researchers in Australia on topics like nutrient value recovery from food waste, anaerobic digestion, microalgal cultivation, and lactic acid fermentation. As an applied scientist, Bede bridges the gap between academia and industry and is passionate about his work. He enjoys outdoor activities and spends time with his partner Aimee and their children, Audrey, Jude, and Maggie.
