Dr. Behnam Lak

Biography

Behnam Lak is a staff scientist at the Umeå Centre for Electron Microscopy, specializing in advanced microscopy techniques including transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). With a decade of experience, he has developed expertise in high-resolution imaging and specimen preparation at cryogenic temperatures. His professional journey began with master's and doctoral studies at Ghent University and the University of Helsinki, where he conducted research utilizing state-of-the-art electron microscopy facilities. After completing his PhD, he worked as a cryo-EM scientist at the University of Helsinki for over two years. His training at the Electron Microscopy Center at Rockefeller University, New York, further enhanced his comprehensive understanding of mouse models and conventional TEM, equipping him to tackle complex imaging challenges. Currently, he provides microscopy services to researchers across diverse disciplines, assisting teams in optimizing imaging protocols and ensuring the collection of high-quality data while contributing to the interpretation of biological phenomena through advanced imaging methods. He is passionate and committed to scientific discovery in the field of electron microscopy.
