Biography

Behrang Keshavarz is an adjunct professor in the Department of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University and a Senior Scientist at the KITE Research Institute, which is part of the University Health Network. He completed his Diplom (MA equivalent) in 2007 and PhD in Psychology in 2012 from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germany. Keshavarz began his postdoctoral fellowship at KITE-UHN and transitioned to the role of Scientist in 2015, becoming a Senior Scientist in 2023. He joined TMU in 2016. Keshavarz’s primary research focuses on human perception and performance in virtual environments, particularly using Virtual Reality (VR) technologies. His work emphasizes the potential applications of VR in rehabilitation, training, and education, as well as the effects of VR on health and safety. He is involved with the Challenging Environment Assessment Laboratories at KITE-UHN, where he aims to optimize VR for health-related outcomes by exploring sensory integration, self-motion perception, and minimizing motion sickness in users. His research has produced publications investigating various aspects of motion sickness and self-motion perception within VR environments.
