Biography

Beidi Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He previously served as a Visiting Research Scientist at Facebook AI Research (FAIR) and completed his postdoctoral studies at Stanford University. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rice University in 2020 and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2015. His research primarily focuses on efficient machine learning, particularly in the design and optimization of algorithms and models for modern hardware to accelerate large machine learning systems. His work has been recognized with multiple awards including paper runner-up at the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) in 2022, paper award at the International Symposium on Intelligent Systems and Applications (IISA) in 2018, and paper award at the USENIX Large Installation System Administration Conference (LISA) in 2014. He was also selected as a Rising Star in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science by MIT in 2019 and by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2021.
