Biography

Beili Liu is a visual artist known for her site-responsive installations and performances that engage with themes of migration, cultural memory, labor, and social and environmental concerns. Liu has exhibited nationally and internationally across various prominent locations, including Norway, Finland, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Lithuania, France, Belgium, Poland, China, Taiwan, and the United States. Her significant solo exhibitions include those at Hå gamle prestegard in Norway and the Galerie Der Pinakothek Der Moderne in Munich. Liu’s artworks have also featured in numerous group exhibitions at renowned institutions like the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Asia Society Texas Center. In addition to her artistic ventures, she has created public artworks in various cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and San Francisco. Liu is a recipient of several prestigious fellowships and awards, including the Andrew Carnegie Fellowship and the Fulbright Arctic Chair for her work in visual arts. She has also participated in several artist residencies, including the Joan Mitchell Center and the Djerassi Foundation. Liu holds an M.F.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and her work has been highlighted in notable publications and media, including PBS and the Wall Street Journal. Liu has been recognized for her contributions to cultural exchange and was honored as the Texas State Artist for 3D mediums in 2018.
