Dr. Ben Caldecott

Biography

Ben Caldecott is the founding Director of the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group and an inaugural Associate Professor of Sustainable Finance at the University of Oxford, where he oversees research aimed at aligning finance with global environmental sustainability. With over fifteen years of boardroom experience, Ben has served as an external member on the board of the Sustainability Committee for DBS Bank, Southeast Asia's largest bank, and is a trustee for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), Europe's largest conservation charity. He is noted for his leadership in various high-profile initiatives, including the International Transition Plan Network and the Global Research Alliance for Sustainable Finance and Investment. His research contributions, particularly in the areas of stranded assets and spatial finance, have reshaped financial institution risk assessments. Ben has supervised numerous doctoral candidates and held academic positions at prestigious institutions, highlighted by his involvement with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as a Coordinating Lead Author. He actively engages in policy discussions, has been seconded to various governmental roles, and contributes to significant research partnerships, resulting in substantial funding and recognition within the fields of climate finance and sustainability.
