Biography

Ben Campkin is a Professor of Urbanism and Urban History at University College London, where he serves as the Vice-Dean for Public City Engagement in the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. He completed his undergraduate degree in Medieval Archaeology and History of Art at UCL in 1994 before obtaining an MSc in Built Environment: Architectural History in 2001, and a PhD in Geography in 2009, focusing on the cultural historical study of regeneration in London. Campkin has an extensive teaching history, including positions at Middlesex University in Visual Culture, and as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Cape Town in Architectural History. He has been a pivotal member of the Bartlett School of Architecture since 2002, moving through roles from College Teacher to Senior Lecturer and eventually to Professor in 2018. His leadership in the UCL Urban Laboratory has shaped urban research and community engagement, prominently leading initiatives toward the opening of a new campus in 2022. Campkin's research interests lie at the intersection of urban studies and architectural history, with a strong focus on sustainable cities and communities.
