Biography

Ben Dyson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta, where he has been since Summer 2018. He completed his undergraduate studies at York University in the UK, graduating in 2002. Following this, he undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the Rotman Research Institute in Canada from 2002 to 2004, where he learned techniques in electrophysiology and event-related potentials. Dyson held an academic position in the Department of Psychology at the University of Sussex in the UK from 2005 to 2008, after which he spent six years at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) from 2008 to 2014. He returned to Sussex again from 2015 to 2018 before settling at the University of Alberta. His research focuses on decision-making in competitive contexts, particularly how organisms navigate mutually exclusive outcomes in games that blend elements of skill and luck. He has served as the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Psychology and as an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Experimental Psychology.
