Biography

Ben Goddard is a Reader at the School of Mathematics. He was born and raised in Birmingham, UK, and completed his MMath and PhD degrees in Mathematics at the University of Warwick. After finishing his PhD, he spent 18 months at the Zentrum Mathematik Technische Universität München and undertook postdoctoral research at the University of Warwick (Mathematics) and Imperial College London (Chemical Engineering). His research combines mathematical modeling, numerical methods, and rigorous analysis to tackle a range of interdisciplinary problems, particularly in complex fluids, soft matter, quantum molecular dynamics, and electronic structure theory. His work emphasizes obtaining accurate and efficient reduced models for complex systems, grappling with the challenges of multiscale phenomena and the exponential scaling problems inherent in numerical approaches. He has a keen interest in applying mathematics to bridge intuitive chemistry models and accurate computational results.
