Biography

Ben Grunwald's academic interests include criminal procedure, criminal law, constitutional law, juvenile justice, and empirical methods. His recent work has examined capacity, open-file discovery, prosecutorial power, the relationship between sentencing guidelines and fairness of sentences, and the optimal age of majority in separating juvenile and adult justice systems. Grunwald joined the Duke Law faculty in 2017 after serving as a Bigelow Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School. Before his tenure at Duke, he clerked for the Honorable Thomas Ambro of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He holds a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, a Doctorate (PhD) in Criminology, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Pennsylvania.
