Biography

Ben Krone earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Florida in 1999 and a Master of Architecture from Columbia University in 2004, where he was the recipient of the McKim Prize for Excellence in Design and the Sol Kaplan Traveling Fellowship. With seven years of experience at SHoP Architects in New York, Ben founded Gradient, a design studio that focuses on procedural approaches to manipulating surface systems to bridge the gap between architecture, product design, and graphic art. Gradient has successfully completed notable projects, including installations at the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum and collaborations with acclaimed artists, resulting in multiple award-winning residential and commercial projects. Currently, Gradient is engaged in several larger projects, including a boutique hotel in Brooklyn and a large residential tower in Jersey City. Ben's work has been featured in various art and design publications, including 'Surface' and 'Architectural Record'. He was awarded the Perkins Award for Distinguished Teaching at the University of Pennsylvania in 2018 and teaches in the Integrated Product Design program.
